“You’re often under a lot of time pressure at festivals to build everything as quickly as possible, so having one less thing to worry about and spend time doing is a godsend. Whenever I see the Mission Control logo in an email footer the day before a festival, I know the event is going to be well-managed.
I have nothing but respect for in-house tech crew at festivals, but this summer I have been given unusable frequencies sat right in the middle of TV channels because the person scanned once first thing in the morning and then got on with all the other jobs they had to do. I was left to either try and hunt them down and ask for new frequencies or fend for myself and risk clashing with somebody else.
It’s great to know there is someone on site or at the end of a phone whose sole purpose is to manage RF and that you can trust your frequencies will be good. I also like having a physical piece of paper with clear, large, easy numbers to read. More often than not, without proper RF coordination on site, I’m taking a photo of someone else’s phone screen, trying to make the numbers legible.!!!”
